What Information Do We Collect?

Information Your Web Browser Sends

As with most websites, when you visit our site, our servers record information that your browser sends. This information is saved in our server logs. It includes:

  • IP address
  • browser type (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc.)
  • browser language
  • date and time of your visit

Please note that you can be identified by IP address since your ISP has information linking your account to your IP address.

Beyond the data gathering described above, we may use our website to ask you for data for specific purposes. When we ask you for data for a specific purpose, we will clearly tell you how we intend to use it. You will have the option of supplying it or refusing to supply it.

User Communications

Whenever you send us an email or other communication, we retain the information you send.

Account Information

When you create an account with our site, we ask you for your name, email address, and password. We use this information to verify your identity to access secure parts of the website. We also use this information to communicate with you. We will not use this data for any other purpose without your consent except if required otherwise by law.

Cookies

When you visit our website, we send a cookie file to your computers. A cookie file is a tiny file with an identification code that allows us to identify your computer and know when you visit our site again.

Conference Registration

When you register for our conferences, we collect the registration information that you provide to us.

CLE

When you purchase CLE, we collect the necessary information to submit to your Bar organization and retain it as required by various Bar organizations.

Online Course Registration

On the registration form for our online courses, the information you supply is being collected for us to learn, over time, information about our course audience. Learning this helps us better tailor our courses to our audience, plus it helps us determine what courses to create in the future. We may also use this information for verification when providing certificates of completion to those who request them. If you opt into the newsletter, your information will be used to send out the newsletter. These are the only ways in which we will use your information.

How Will We Use Your Data?

We will use your data in connection with our activities, events, and services related to privacy and data security. We may also use your data to conduct research to improve this website or protect its security.

Registration data about participants will be shared with sponsors and sometimes with speakers. We instruct recipients of the participant list to use it to reach out to participants as part of reasonable follow-up after the event. We advise recipients not to share the list with other organizations. If you want to opt out of sharing your information with sponsors or speakers, please get in touch with us.

If you want us to stop using your data for one or more purposes, please contact us. If we are not restricted by any laws, we will take reasonable measures to cease using your data for such purposes.

If you want us to delete your data, please contact us. If we are not restricted by any laws from deleting the data, we will take reasonable measures to do so.

When Will We Disclose Your Data?

We use Google Analytics. Accordingly, Google may collect some data about your visit to our site. If you supply our data to us, we may share your data with a third-party vendor to facilitate our communication with you (such as a bulk email service provider) or to perform services related to the event (such as preparation of conference materials). We will not disclose your data to third parties for purposes unrelated to the uses described in this privacy policy except under a subpoena or court order or in response to an emergency involving your health or safety or that of others or yourself. In the event of a criminal investigation, the government may seek information about you. We will do so when we are legally obligated to provide the information. If we are permitted to notify you before providing it, we will make a reasonable attempt to do so. If we believe we need to disclose your data to prevent harm, violence, or harassment to another person or generally to the public at large, we will do so. We will disclose your data only to the extent necessary to address the issue. Except when law or court order requires otherwise, we will seek your permission before disclosing any other information about you.
