In 2024 over 70 countries held national elections. More than two billion eligible voters played their part in what has been described as the largest election year in history. These elections resulted in some full-scale administration changes and some continuity of administrations with greatly reduced margins and political influence. In an increasingly digital society dealing with the here-and-now is only part of the task, with horizon-scanning being an integral part of a successful business and compliance model. This panel will discuss how the democratic process and changes in administrations impacts current privacy regulation and the impact it has on short and longer term outlooks. We will also consider the role organizations should have in the dialogue around any proposed change, and what they need to consider both at home and abroad to ensure that they are on the right side of compliance.
