Privacy laws are now evolving in ways that increasingly constrain the collection and use of Big Data for data analytics activities. As a consequence, companies engaged in Big Data activities must refine their approach to data collection, aggregation, de-identification, use, and sharing. This session examines key trends, including expanding definitions of “personal information”; more rigorous standards for aggregation and de-identification; greater transparency obligations and greater choices for individuals about the collection and use of their personal information; and tension in the controller/processor dichotomy. This session will include practice pointers for companies in updating their Big Data activities in light of these significant privacy law trends.
