In December 2022, member countries of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) adopted a landmark set of principles, the Principles of Trusted Government Access to Data. These principles identified the common approaches democracies follow to protect privacy and data when accessing data for national security and law enforcement purposes. Join National Security Experts from Canada, the Netherlands, and the United States to learn how their governments implement those OECD Principles from the very experts responsible for ensuring those safeguards are followed. The panel will cover the importance of data access for national security and how protecting data is part of their core missions. Discussion will cover the OECD TGA Principles with a focus on oversight, redress, and transparency, highlighting how implementing these concepts are unique in a national security setting when governments must also protect classified information and national security investigations. The panelists will highlight the internal compliance and external oversight bodies; how they remediate non-compliance; how effective redress is provided; and how they navigate transparency.
